Contract: Permanent, full and part-time considered.

Basic salary(FTE): £70,000–£90,000 depending on experience.

The role

We are seeking a senior consultant with 5+ years’ strong consulting experience in law enforcement, public safety or comparable UK public sector areas. You will work directly with government and law enforcement clients, and support high-quality delivery in complex, ambiguous environments. This role suits someone who can lead packages of work with limited direction, keep standards high, and build trust quickly with client teams.

What success looks like

Within the first 3 months, you will be able to:

  • Run a client assignment with limited direction, maintain strong client relationships, and deliver outputs that are clear, useful, decision-ready and meet BlueprintCo standards.

  • Be an active contributor to a culture of peer review, constructive challenge and shared learning that raises the standard of our work and company knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake consulting work for policing, public safety and wider government clients from problem definition and concept design to shaping change.

  • Build trusted relationships with clients, understand and anticipate needs, manage expectations and guide work to valued outcomes.

  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders including front-line operations, technical and domain experts, and senior leadership.

  • Lead assignment teams, set direction, prioritise work, manage delivery plans and resourcing. Maintain standards, client value and quality.

  • Work effectively with partner organisations and multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Support cross-company peer review, independent assessment and shared learning.

  • Produce excellent written outputs and presentations (reports, options papers, operating models, delivery plans, strategic briefings).

  • Support and lead proposals, strategic campaigns and development of company capabilities.

Essential experience and skills

  • 5+ years’ strong experience in consulting (or equivalent advisory delivery role), with evidence of leading work.

  • Experience working with UK policing, law enforcement or public safety organisations, or closely adjacent justice partners and government departments.

  • Strong judgement and ability to operate well in ambiguity.

  • Confident stakeholder management, including senior stakeholders.

  • Excellent writing and structuring skills (clear thinking on paper).

  • Ability to manage your own workload and deliver to deadlines with limited oversight.

Desirable

  • An understanding of UK public sector and policing policy context, including strategic priorities, governance and accountability, and the wider environment (for example funding pressures, inspection and assurance, and cross-government drivers).

  • Experience in strategic and commercial analysis, including business cases, options appraisal and benefits and costs assessment.

  • Experience in digital, data, technology or transformation programmes.

  • Operating model design, process improvement, service design, governance or capability build.

  • Experience working across organisational/departmental boundaries and navigating multiple accountabilities.

  • Familiarity with public sector procurement, frameworks, and bid writing.
